Rosemary Seymour Award 2007

Congratulations to recipient of the 2007 Rosemary Seymour awards.

This year the General Award went to Sinith Sittirak. Her doctoral thesis at Victoria University is on a Thai woman farmer and activist Pornpet, who fought for land rights and justice for almost four decades. She was brutally killed, leaving behind 400 petitions, diaries, letters, news clippings, court documents and other archival records, which Sinith is examining with the cooperation of Pornpet’s family. Sinith’s thesis title is ‘The Politics of Knowledge in the Thai Women’s Movement: Developing a Postcolonial Critique and Reclaiming Women’s Knowledge through the Reading of Grassroots Archives’.

The judges were enthusiastic about her project and pleased to make this award.

Since no applicant was eligible for the Maori women’s award, this could not be awarded.
